Albert S. Schmidt, Jr., 95, of Hampden Twp. and formerly of Lemoyne, died Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Twp.
He was a retired VP and secretary for his family business, Capital Bakers, Inc. for more than 30 years prior to his entry into Real Estate. Albert was a graduate of Catholic High School, Harrisburg and attended Mt. St. Mary’s College, MD, Penn State University and the University of Minnesota prior to his entry into the US Air Force during WWII.
Albert served on the Harrisburg City Council from 1970 to 1976 where he served as Budget Chairman. Some of his professional accomplishments include serving as Past President of Central PA Bakers and the PA State Bakers Associations. Some of his community involvement includes being a 40 plus year member of the Rotary Club of Harrisburg where he served as a Board member and Chairman of the Harrisburg Rotary Foundation; Past President of, and Easter Seal Chairman for the Crippled Children Society; Past President of the Greater Harrisburg Neighbors Non Profit Housing Assn.; and Past President of the Bellevue Park Assn. He also served as a Director on numerous Boards including Greater Harrisburg Area Chamber of Commerce, Holy Spirit Hospital for over 30 years, Chairman of the Tri-County United Way Campaign, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Pastor’s Advisory Council, Bishop McDevitt 50th Anniversary Banquet and the Greater Harrisburg Movement.
He was the widower of Rosemary (Lynch) and Jane Brown, and was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth, and daughter-in-law, Susan (Satterfield) Schmidt, wife of Joe.
Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Michele and Richard D., Jr. Crowley; two sons, Albert and his wife, Rebecca, Joseph; a sister, Nancy Jane Murphy; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Thursday, January 17, in St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, with the Rev. Michael McFadden as Celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Swatara Twp.
