Alfred P. Freistak, 95, of New Cumberland, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2024. He was born on November 18, 1928, in Middletown, to the late Frank Freistak Sr. and Frances (Jacobs) Freistak.
He was a graduate of New Cumberland High School and Penn State University, and he was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Al worked with his family in the family theatre business. The Freistaks operated the Cumberland Theatre on Market Street in New Cumberland which showed silent films. From there, they built the West Shore Theatre in 1940 as well as the Shore Drive-In Theatre in 1954. After retiring, he enjoyed painting landscapes; many of his pieces were donated or given away. Another artistic endeavor was ballroom dancing, where he won many competitions. He also enjoyed ocean cruising and bus trips.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank, Joseph, Paul and George “Bobby” Freistak; and a sister, Helen Trepanier. Alfred is survived by his brother, Richard; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland. A viewing will take place earlier that day, from 10-11:30AM in Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland (located directly across the street from the church). Burial will be private in Holy Cross Cemetery, Harrisburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Speranza Animal Rescue, 1216 Brandt Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
