Alice Kathleen Savastio, 85, of Lemoyne, died Thursday, July 12, 2018.
Alice was born at home, in North Annville Township, to the late John R. and Hannah (Walters) Bomberger. She attended grade school in Palmyra and Annville. A 1950 graduate of Hershey High School, she was active in student council, Girls’ Athletic Council, and the state-championship chorus.
Alice graduated from the School of Nursing at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She served as the college nurse at Lebanon Valley College while attending classes at the college. Following her marriage in 1956 to Joseph A. Savastio, she became a nursing instructor at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia while her husband attended medical college there. One of her refresher courses was featured in the American Journal of Nursing. She became office manager of her husband’s family practice in Camp Hill for over twenty years. She participated over the course of her lifetime in the Harvard University Nurses’ Health Study.
Alice was an active member of West Shore Country Club (where she coached), officiated at Central Penn tournaments, and won a number of tennis championships. She coordinated the officials at the first Avon Futures tournament held in Hershey. She played in the Eighteen Holers’ golf league and also enjoyed music and the wonders of nature.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband and her brother, John C. Bomberger. She is survived by sisters-in-law Judy B. Savastio of Harrisburg and Grace S. Bomberger of Tinton Falls, NJ; and nieces and a nephew.
