Althea L. Kessler, 90, formerly of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2017 in her residence at the Woods at Cedar Run, Camp Hill. She was the oldest daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Wolf) Weber. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Joanne Lippert and Betty Hamburg.
She was a homemaker, part time bookkeeper for Kessler’s, Inc. Lemoyne and enjoyed clerking at the Kessler’s Delicatessen in the West Shore Farmer’s Market, the Carlisle Market and the Broad Street Market.
Althea was a member of the First Church of God, New Cumberland, a former member of the Carlisle Country Club and its Bogey Bunch Golf Group, and a member of the New Cumberland Women’s Club. She loved to play Bridge and was a member of several different Bridge Clubs including the couples card club she enjoyed with her late husband, Frederick E. Kessler, Sr. for more than 50 years. Althea and Frederick wintered in Ocala, FL for 30 years and every summer hosted the family vacation for the entire family at the beach in Delaware. She was the former pianist and organist for the Shiremanstown Church of God and the former pianist for the Junior Choir for the First Church of God, New Cumberland. In her later years, Althea enjoyed the Bridge Club at The Woods, Bingo and crossword puzzles. Additionally, she was an avid Green Bay Packers and Nittany Lion fan.
She is survived by her children, Frederick E. Kessler, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Camp Hill and Susan K. Sansom and husband Glen of New Cumberland; four grandchildren, Nichole Beagle and husband Danny, Glen A. Sansom, Jr. and wife Rachel, Frederick E. Kessler, III and wife Jill and Andrew J. Kessler; and six great grandchildren, Daniel, Emma, Kate, Ava, Ethan and Ellie. She was affectionately called Aunt Gertie by her nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at both The Woods at Cedar Run and the Liberty Dialysis Center for the extraordinary care and compassion they shared with Althea.
All are welcome to greet the family on November 24th from 1:00 to 2:00p.m. at the First Church of God New Cumberland, 323 Reno St., New Cumberland, PA 17070 with the Rev. Charles Zahora, her pastor officiating, with the memorial service immediately following. Private committal services will be held in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp.
