Angela Marie Burke, 90, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of practically everywhere up and down the East Coast, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Country Meadows Retirement Community, Hampden Twp. She was the daughter of the late Arturo and Angela (Justiniano) Miller, born on July 1, 1932 in the Bronx, NY.
Angela grew up in a Spanish-speaking household, learning English when she entered public school. Her Puerto Rican heritage would instill the importance of family and the love of cooking, eating and feeding others.
She was a flight attendant with Pan American Airlines early in life and later upon moving to Florida, she worked as a realtor. Angela was a talented seamstress, and she took pride in managing her own finances, staying current with the market and her investments. She certainly enjoyed the finer things in life. And although she never paid full retail price, she had exquisite and expensive taste. A lover of romantic operas and waltzes in particular, music was a constant in her life, as was her passion for traveling and visiting new places. In recent years, she began watching (and enjoying) Telenovelas, brushing up on her Spanish and keeping her mind sharp.
She was raised Catholic but converted to the Orthodox church later in life. She developed many meaningful and lasting bonds as a member of Saint John Chrysostom Orthodox Church, York and former member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Camp Hill.
Surviving Angela are her children, Dr. Kelley M. Engle of Enola and Kevin M. Heslop of Lykens; grandchildren, Elizabeth “Libby” Engle, Ren Engle, Erik Barnes and Rachel Heslop; daughter-in-law, Amy Withrow; son-in-law, Greg Engle; and a brother, Victor Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three husbands, Byron Heslop, Thomas J. Gordon and C. Thomas Burke; a son, Eric Heslop; and three siblings, Connie Kane, Clay Miller and George Rodriguez.
Viewings will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 from 4-6PM at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland, as well as the next morning, Wednesday, December 7, from 10-11AM at St. John Chrysostom Orthodox Church, York. A funeral service will begin at 11AM in the church, with burial taking place immediately following in the church cemetery.
