Annamarie (Ann) Hagen, 82, of Hampden Township, died Sunday, March 30 at UPMC Pinnacle West Shore Hospital. Ann was the second daughter of George and Anna Kollar, and was always proud of her Slovak heritage and community. After finishing nursing school in Allentown, Ann headed to New York City to start her career. It was there, on a blind date, where she met another Pennsylvania transplant, James Hagen, who would become her husband of 56 years. After having two children, and moving several times, they arrived in central Pennsylvania and Ann resumed her nursing career, and went to work for Dr. Norman Woldorf. She truly enjoyed it there, and her coworkers became her close, lifelong friends.
She was an active member of Church of the Good Shepherd in Camp Hill, and participated in several ministries, including Helping Hands. She felt strongly about causes including literacy and animal welfare. In addition to passing her love of reading to her children, she volunteered for many years at what became the Cleve J. Fredricksen Library. Over the years, she and James adopted five beloved, simple-minded dogs, and she rarely passed up the opportunity to meet and greet dogs when she was out. She received great satisfaction making prayer shawls for those in need and blankets for sick children. Ann adored her grandchildren, and loved spending time with them and hearing about all the small and big things happening in their lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Anita and Mary, and her Husband James, the love of her life.
Ann is survived by her son James L. Hagen Jr. (Deborah) of Enola; her daughter Elisabeth Hagen (Daniel Gabbay) of Arlington, VA and her grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew, Ned and Nora. She also leaves behind a loving network of nieces, nephews, and friends who will deeply miss her.
A public mass will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Camp Hill on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 11:00 AM, with visitation starting at 10:00 AM. Following mass, Ann will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In this time of profound loss, we remember Ann Hagen as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, whose gentle spirit and dedication to her family and profession will forever impact the lives of those she touched. May she rest in peace.
