Armand S. Apa, Sr., 87, of New Cumberland, formerly of Lewisberry, Camp Hill, and Harrisburg passed into eternal life with Jesus Christ on Friday, January 28th in his home surrounded by family.
He was born July 2, 1934 in Harrisburg to the late Charles and Sara (Leonzo) Apa.
He was a 1953 graduate of the former William Penn High School in Harrisburg where he had athletic accomplishments on the grid iron, baseball field and track. As an Army veteran, he was a retired Senior Development Engineer from the former AMP, Inc. obtaining six patents by designing several connectors. He completed advanced academic ventures at Millersville State College where he played football and also earned a Master’s Degree from St. Francis University in Loretto, PA. Upon retirement, he had numerous real estate ventures and acquisitions. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Shrine, Loyal Order of Moose, and American Legion Post 730, Penbrook. He was quite the gifted athlete, and his sports affinity included a record 6 holes-in-one at the Valley Green Golf Course. Family and friends were often entertained by his witty sense of humor, recitation of poetry, descriptions of his pond, and antics with his big dogs.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ruth Mary (McGreehan) Apa; children, Heidi Apa McDonald (Mark) of Camp Hill, Armand S. Apa, Jr. (Jill) of Mechanicsburg, and Stephen R. Apa (Michelle) of Lewisberry; brother, Franklin Apa, Sr. of Harrisburg; cousins, Sister Rose Marie Apa, D.M. of Newfield, NJ, Rosalie Schell of Harrisburg, Michael Leonzo of Harrisburg, Theresa Capricci of FL, and Cindy Shields of GA, along with numerous nieces and nephews; also the mother of his children, Judith (Glaser) Apa Krebs. Spending time with his seven grandchildren, Armand S. Apa, III, Alexander Apa, Megan and Mason McDonald, Rachel, Dominic, and Anthony Apa fulfilled his life’s joy.
Visitations will be held from 5-7pm Thursday, February 3rd at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland and from 10am until funeral services at 11am on Friday, February 4th at New Cumberland Alliance Church, 148 Spanglers Mill Rd., New Cumberland, PA. Burial will follow in Emanuel Cemetery, Lewisberry, PA.
