Aubrey M. Hillis, 77, of Etters, formerly of Charlotte, NC went to his heavenly home on Sunday, March 29, 2020, surrounded by his family at Manor Care Health Services, Carlisle.
After graduating from P.S. DuPont High School in 1960, he attended Goldey Beacom School of Business where he earned an Associate Degree in Accounting and Business Administration. Then he worked in the Records Office at the University of Delaware until he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he was a file clerk in the Psychological Warfare office at Fort Bragg, NC. He served there for two years, and reached the rank of Specialist Fifth Class. Upon leaving the service, he worked for DuPont Chemical Company as a Computer Operator for four years while also attending college at the Philadelphia School of Textiles and Sciences for two years until he was recruited by Electronic Data Systems. He worked there for 31 years until he retired.
Aubrey was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Concord, NC, where he was a Communion Assistant. Other activities have been Worship and Music Committee, Altar Guild, Parish Choir, Singing Seniors, Bell Choir, Lutheran Man in Mission, and for a couple of years served as Sacristan. His hobbies included reading, cooking, cake decorating, candy making, crossword puzzles, and loved travel. He was a proud donor to the American Red Cross blood bank, where he donated several gallons of blood throughout his years of donating.
He was born October 10, 1942 in Wilmington, DE to the late Aubrey Vandever and Bertha Elma (Harris) Hillis.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Carol Frances (Davis) Hillis; children, Mark E. Hillis of Etters, Karen M. Kirk (Donald) of Etters, , Kevin M. Hillis (Stacy) of Lemoyne; sisters, Judith A. Hillis of Wilmington, DE and Mary Ellen Blevins of New Castle, DE; grandchildren, Mikayla R. and Andrew M. Hillis; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A memorial service followed by interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville will be scheduled for a future date.
