Barbara J. (McCormick) Fisher, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of New Cumberland, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Messiah Lifeways, Upper Allen Twp., just ten days shy of her 90th birthday. She was born in Harrisburg to the late Walter and Cynthia (Boyer) McCormick.
A graduate of the former Lemoyne High School, Barb went on to work at Bell Telephone, Harrisburg, as a secretary. She and Dick married after he returned from the service, and Barb’s full-time job quickly transitioned to caring for her family and their home. Although Dick was the jokester of the two, Barb could certainly hold her own; she also had a signature “eye roll” every time Dick would say something off-color. Barb enjoyed playing cards throughout the years with different groups of friends and family. Rummikub was a staple in the Fisher household, and Barb was responsible for teaching her children and grandchildren how to play. She and Dick loved being grandparents, and they always opened their doors when a babysitter was needed. The family attended Trinity United Methodist Church, New Cumberland, for many years. Barb took pride in dressing sharp, having her hair done and staying well-manicured. However, she enjoyed the simpler things in life as well, such as sitting on the front porch of their Sherwood Road residence, taking in the fresh air and watching the world go by. Her caring and loving way will be greatly missed.
Surviving Barb is her daughter, Vicki F. Dubs of Etters; grandchildren, Shawn A. Dubs of Elizabethtown, Alex J. Dubs (Jessica) of San Antonio, TX, and Danielle N. Dubs of Santa Clarita, CA; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Richard E. “Dick” Fisher; a son, Richard L. Fisher; a son-in-law, Bob A. Dubs; and siblings, Walter “Bud” McCormick Jr., William McCormick, Robert McCormick, and Marian (McCormick) Hammacher.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
