Barbara L. "Babsie" Schell

November 30, 1943 — April 12, 2023

Barbara L. Schell, 79, of Camp Hill, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, in UPMC Harrisburg Hospital surrounded by her devoted husband and children.

She was a full-time wife, mother and volunteer for her family and numerous organizations throughout the mid-state. Barb earned her AA in Theater from Virginia Intermont College, Bristol, VA, BS in Elementary Education from Penn State, and her BS in Nursing from York College. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Highland Park, Camp Hill. Most recently she served as the Vice-President of the Congregational Council, chair of the Finance/Stewardship Ministry team, Chair of the Strategic Plan Implementation team, and member of the Endowment Committee. Among her many other avenues of volunteer work over the years, she was the chair of Homeland Center’s 155th Celebration last year, was on the Board of Open Stage, and served as the Executive Director of Theatre Harrisburg (formerly HCT) multiple times.

Babsie had many hobbies and passions. In her younger years, she was an avid dancer, singer, and actress, and that love, and support of theatre continued for the rest of her life. She enjoyed decorating and interior design projects in her beautiful homes; she was always reading a book and spent many days and nights completing puzzles. Babsie prioritized her children’s and grandchildren’s many activities by attending countless sporting events and music and dance performances.

Barbara was born in Camden, NJ, the daughter of the late Stanley and Jeanne (Locke) Lefczik.

She is survived by her loving husband of more than 58 years, Donald E. Schell; her children, Jodi Donohue (David) of West Chester, Jennifer Wright (Rob) of Mechanicsburg, and Bill Schell (Amalia Protopapas) of New York, NY; her sister Susan Eaton of Lisburn; grandchildren, Kirsten, Molly, Mark, Jon, Will, Anna, and Logan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
