Betty Lee Hazzard

Betty Lee Hazzard 88, of Camp Hill, PA passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024.  Betty was born on June 16, 1935, in Jenkinjones, WV to the late Estel and Zola (Clark) Miller.  Betty, the eldest of 5 girls, grew up in West Jefferson, NC with her sisters who were sometimes referred to as the "Millerettes".   As a very young woman, she moved to PA where she worked as a telephone operator and met and married her first love Walter.  After Walter passed away at a very young age, she later met and married Bill and gave birth to her youngest child, Christine.  After Christine's heartbreaking, early passing, Betty helped to raise Christine's three children, Haley, Ricky and Travis.  Betty was honored to be such a strong and constant presence in their lives and enjoyed watching them and all of her other grandchildren grow into wonderful young adults.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, friend, and homemaker. She loved spending time with her family and friends.  She enjoyed and was very talented in making, crocheting, and painting any type of craft item. She was a fantastic cook and enjoyed baking and making meals for her family and friends, especially during the holidays.  Betty made the best pumpkin pies.  She enjoyed family vacations, family functions of any type and attended all of her grandchildren's sporting events.  With a smile, her family will forever treasure Betty's comments whenever the whistle blew at a high school or college basketball game.  In retirement, she enjoyed traveling with family and friends.  Hawaii was one of her favorite places that she visited.  In her later years, she liked to sit and chat about life's memories, observe her surroundings, and share her wisdom.  Betty could keep anyone in the family in line by simply giving them "the look", it was truly her signature.  She was the matriarch and center of the family and the glue that held everyone together.  She was very secure in her faith and thankful for God's grace.  Betty was able to spend this past Christmas with her family and friends where she shared how wonderful it was.  Her family will forever treasure those words and that time spent as one final and special memory.

Betty is survived by her children, Diane Tamanosky of Camp Hill, PA and Michael Brendle (Teresa) of Reinholds, PA; sisters, Ruby Halligan of Ocean City, MD and Hettie Dooley of Myrtle Beach, SC; son-in-law, Rick Tamanosky; grandchildren, Heather Brendle, Jacob Brendle (Heather), Nicole Shotts (Brandon), Matthew Tamanosky (Sabrina), Haley Tamanosky (Jake), Ricky Tamanosky, and Travis Tamanosky; great-grandchildren, Elsie, Lainey, Sophia, Blake, Bennett, Everett, Mya, Skyler, and Nathaniel; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was also preceded in death by her husbands, Walter Herman Brendle and William Ellsworth Hazzard, Jr.; daughter, Christine Tamanosky; sisters, MaryLou Boltz and Helen Phoenix; and son-in-law, Richard Tamanosky.

Betty was loving, sweet, gentle, kind and forgiving.  She will be deeply missed and forever carried in the hearts of all that loved her.  Her family takes comfort in knowing she is no longer in any pain and no longer suffering.  She was truly a wonderful person and all who knew and loved her were so blessed to have had her in their lives.  In her final days, Betty was completely selfless and wanted to ensure that her family would be okay without her.

The family feels that they now have one of the most remarkable guardian angels watching over them.

A visitation will be held from 10am until funeral services begin at 11am on Thursday, January 18th 2024, at Parthemore Funeral Home in New Cumberland, PA.  The burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Mechanicsburg, PA.
