Betty J. Rittner

Betty J. Rittner, 87, of Susquehanna Twp., died Tuesday, January 8, 2018, at Green Ridge Village, Newville. Daughter of the late Alvie Earl Balsbaugh, Sr. and Ruth (Parthemore) Balsbaugh, she was born on September 14, 1931, in Rockville, Susquehanna Twp.

Betty was a homemaker for most of her life, but she was employed at Bowman’s Department Store, Harrisburg, for many years. Having no children of her own, she very much loved the time she was able to spend with her godchildren and nieces and nephews. Betty and her late husband, Bill, took great pleasure in being Mr. and Mrs. Claus for different municipalities across Dauphin County – they did this every Christmas season for more than 50 years.

Betty is survived by her brother, A. E. “Bill” Balsbaugh, of Duncannon; six godchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Frederick Rittner; her sister, Hilda (Balsbaugh) Fry; and two brothers, James and Robert Balsbaugh.

A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, January 12, at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. A viewing will take place one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Immediately following the service, a burial will take place at Churchville Cemetery, Steelton.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to the staff and nurses of both Green Ridge Village, Newville, and Hospice of Central Pennsylvania.
