Betty L. (Patterson) Hannum, of Camp Hill, passed away at her home on Friday, March 10, 2023 – one month after celebrating her 100th birthday. She was the daughter of the late Nathan and Laura (Haertter) Patterson, born on February 12, 1923 in Lancaster.
A graduate of John Harris High School (1940), she would go on to do clerical work at many local businesses over the years. She joined Trinity United Methodist Church, New Cumberland, after marriage, and remained a member throughout her life. She was active with the quilting group, volunteering at Our Daily Bread, and as a member of the Sing & Celebrate Choir. She and her husband, Bill, enjoyed nights out, dancing or listening to jazz and big band music. She was a past-secretary of AARP in Camp Hill and participated in many volunteer activities with that organization.
Betty always wore a smile and never complained. She was accepting of all people and what they had to offer. She enjoyed a good laugh, especially with her old school friends (with whom she kept in contact) and her sisters. She and her sisters held a special bond, playing cards together every Wednesday, and going on group vacations whenever possible. She enjoyed family car trips, cruises, and bus trips throughout the years. Her Christian faith was on display each and every day, caring for and loving those around her.
Surviving Betty is her daughter, Patricia L. “Patty” Hannum Gorton of Camp Hill; a sister, Henrietta “Pat” Crider Mellinger; several cousins, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two beloved sisters, Helen Weaver and Flora Dare; as well as a son-in-law, Fred Gorton.
A funeral service will be held at 12PM on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Trinity United Methodist Church, New Cumberland, with a viewing taking place from 11AM until services begin in the church. A graveside service will be held later that day, at 2:30PM in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
