Betty R. Wicks

March 20, 1931 — November 6, 2017

Betty Richardson Wicks of Camp Hill was born in Camden, NJ on March 20, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Loretta (Keeling) Richardson and Lester A. Richardson; and widow of John F. Wicks, who passed away in 2007.

She graduated from New Cumberland High School (1949) and The Pennsylvania State University (1953) with a degree in Education. Her post graduate studies were completed at Dixon University Center in Harrisburg. Betty was listed in Who’s Who in American High Schools, Who’s Who at Penn State, and Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.

She began her teaching career in Harrisburg, PA at Webster School, continued at Middletown, RI, where her husband was stationed in the Navy, followed by the West Shore School District as an elementary school teacher.

Betty taught Sunday School at Baughman Memorial Methodist Church, New Cumberland, was den mother for Cub Scouts, and was active in the Girl Scout program. She was a member of Baughman Memorial Methodist Church, a life member of Penn State Alumni Association, a member of Chi Omega sorority, a former member of AAUW, and New Cumberland Junior Civic Club.

She is survived by her daughter Deborah E. Wicks and husband Dan McCutcheon of Venice, FL; two sons, John F. Wicks II and his wife Karen of Highland Mills, NY, and Robert R. Wicks and his wife Lauryn of Mechanicsburg, PA; and five grandsons, Keegan, Thomas, Steven Wicks; and Ryan and Dustin Wirt.

Private services will be held at the Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice or to the Cleve J. Fredricksen Library, 100 N 19th St, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
