Bonnie L. Dixon

Bonnie L. Dixon, died peacefully at her home in Lemoyne on Thursday, April 22, 2021. She was 77 years old. She was born January 30, 1944 in Danville, Pennsylvania, the oldest child of James and Jean (née Wright) Hanlon. She was raised by her mother Jean and her adopted father, John P. Dixon. Her parents and brother Thomas Dixon, all preceded her in death.

Bonnie graduated from Frackville High School in 1961. After raising her two children, she returned to school earning a B.A. and a nursing degree. She worked for many years in the Emergency Room at Holy Spirit Hospital, before retiring from work in the pharmaceutical industry. Bonnie was a very caring and giving woman. Loved by many friends, she made everyone in her orbit feel like a part of her family. She was a beautiful, vivacious woman with undeniable joie de vivre.

She is survived by her husband David J. DeVries; her son Ken Hartzell and his husband Peter DeBrine of Rockport, ME; her son Joseph Hartzell and his wife Melissa Hartzell of Indiana, PA; and sister, Janet Kelly and her husband Todd Kelly of Altoona, PA.

A memorial service will be held at the Pine Street Church in Harrisburg at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions should be directed to the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area (https://humanesocietyhbg.org/).
