Bonnie E. Shenk, 80, of Harrisburg, PA died suddenly from an acute vascular event while visiting New Orleans, LA. Her passing was sudden and unexpected and her family and friends are grieving her loss. She was born March 23, 1944, in Harrisburg to the late Kenneth E. and Blanche G. (Sanders) Kline. She graduated from Cumberland Valley High School and Harrisburg Area Community College. In 2005, she retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania after 30 years of service. Upon retirement, she began volunteering with several community organizations and especially loved working with young children. She was an active volunteer at Sara Lindemuth Elementary School and Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts for many years. She also wanted to see the world and started traveling as much as possible. Once a year for 25 years, one of those trips included a reunion and adventure with her sisters. Bonnie was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Enola, PARSE, Lower Paxton Bocce League, multiple fitness organizations, plus pilates and yoga groups.
Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Deanna Kae Shenk of Harrisburg; her sisters, Judy A. Graham of San Diego, CA, Jane Kline (Mike) Brockman of Sunbury, PA, and Denise "Deni" (John) Taylor of Galveston, TX; plus numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many good friends she made and kept along the way. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jeffrey E. Shenk in 1991; and a sister, Barbara L. Weigle in 2003.
A Celebration of Life to honor her will be scheduled by family at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to Bethesda Mission in Harrisburg.
