Bradley L. Shiflett, 81, of Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg, died January 8 at Holy Spirit Hospital. Born September 23, 1934, in New Rochelle, NY, he was the son of the late Herman L. and Rosalinda (Afflerbach) Shiflett. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania; was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Water Works Association and the Water Works Operators’ Association of Pennsylvania; and was a past vice-president of the New Cumberland Olde Towne Association. Brad retired from the Pennsylvania American Water Company after 38 years of service.
Brad’s formative years were spent in Oradell, NJ. In 1951, his family relocated to Haddonfield, NJ where Brad graduated from Haddonfield High School. After college, Brad began his career with American Water Works in Philadelphia. It was on assignment in Chattanooga, TN that he met his future wife, Fay. They were married in Chattanooga on Valentine’s Day, 1960 and soon after made their first home in Haddonfield. In 1965, Brad’s job brought them to Pennsylvania where they lived in New Cumberland for 43 years and raised their three children. Brad enjoyed spending time with his family, playing Bridge with friends, trips to the casino, and lunch with retired buddies.
Surviving are his wife, Fay Harmon Shiflett; two daughters, Linda F. Shiflett (Chuck D’Hulster) of Elverson, PA, and Stacey S. McAdams (Peter) of Gaithersburg, MD; a son, Brian L. Shiflett (Sherri) of Derry Township, PA; a sister, Norma R. Shiflett of Haddon Heights, NJ; a brother, Leighton P. Shiflett (Sri) of Coppell, TX; two grandchildren, Stephen L. and Sarah M. Shiflett of Derry Township, PA; and two nephews, David L. Shiflett of Witchita, KS, and Earl L. Shiflett of Houston, TX. In addition to his parents, Brad was predeceased by his sister, Joan C. Shiflett.
Family visitation will be from 1-2 pm followed by a celebration of life service on Sunday, January 17, 2016 in the Bethany Village Community Room, 325 Wesley Drive. Interment will be held at a future date in the George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Brad’s memory may be made to the Bethany Village Beautification Fund, 325 Wesley Dr., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. The family would like to thank the nurses and aides on 7 Main at Holy Spirit Hospital for their loving care and support.
