Bruce Eric Recupero

January 9, 1964 — November 16, 2024

Pittsburgh, PA

Bruce Eric Recupero, 60, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at his residence. He was the son of James "Jim" Recupero, Jr. and the late Vernelia G. (Barr) Recupero, born on January 9, 1964, in Spangler, Cambria County.

Known as "Bruce" to his family, and "Eric" to most friends and colleagues, he would grow up in Enola and go on to graduate from Northern High School, Dillsburg. He pursued a degree in French at IUP, but ultimately decided to transition to the workforce. He worked in the health insurance field for most of his life, beginning at Synertech Health before it was acquired. He spent the remainder of his career with Highmark, starting in Harrisburg before moving to the Pittsburgh branch, working at their downtown location as a Medicare claims supervisor.

His passion for foreign languages and linguistics was a constant throughout life; he was fluent in French and proficient in several other languages. He enjoyed traveling, visiting France, Bermuda, and a handful of other tropical locales during his life. He was a “foodie,” always fascinated with trying local and foreign cuisines—the more exotic, the better. He was also a phenomenal cook in his own right. He enjoyed the social aspects of work and the relationships he developed along the way. He also had a good sense of style, taking pride in the way he dressed whenever he walked out the front door. A master storyteller, his friends and family will miss the elaborate and dramatic way he would tell even the most straightforward tales. He was a unique presence, and he will be greatly missed.

Surviving Bruce is his father, James Recupero, Jr. of Dillsburg; his brother, Frank Recupero (Cindy) of New Cumberland; a special nephew and niece, Eli and Audrey; and aunts and uncles, Greta Meece of Lousiville, KY, Richard Barr of Strongtown, Frank Barr of Clymer, and one aunt he lived with for a stretch of time and to whom he was particularly close, Beula Wolf of Indiana. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vernelia G. (Barr) Recupero (dcd. 2024); as well as several aunts and uncles.

A burial and memorial service will be held at the family's convenience. Details will be communicated at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Bruce’s name to the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh at www.humaneanimalrescue.org.
