Charles "Ironman" Wyndham Evans

December 5, 1946 — March 9, 2018

Charles W. Evans, “IRONMAN”, 71 of Fairview Township, New Cumberland, PA.

With a broken heart and beautiful memories that will last my lifetime, I held my husband and said our final goodbye as he transitioned into the arms of our Heavenly Father. Charlie passed away peacefully and pain free on March 9, 2018 at Harrisburg Hospital following the fiercest battle of his life.

Born December 5, 1946 in Luzerne County, to James H. and Ruth (Law) Evans, who preceded him, along with two brothers, in death. Survived by loving wife Susan Schaefer-Evans, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Karen and Jay Jenkins of Huntington, IN, sister, Collette Kelly of New Cumberland, mother-in-law, Inge Schaefer, of New Cumberland, nephew Hayes Kelly (Lisa) of Harrisburg, nieces Alicia Kelly of Philadelphia and Ragin El-Shatar (Eslam) of Harrisburg, four great nephews and one great niece, as well as several cousins.

Simple pleasures in life were our annual vacations in Chincoteague, riding and taking care of his prized Harley, NASCAR racing, Redskins football, relaxing on his front porch watching the grass grow, Christmas holidays with all the decorations, quiet moments with his wife at home and the company of good friends and family.

Upon graduation from high school, Charlie enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving two tours in Vietnam aboard both the U.S.S. Bainbridge and the U.S.S. Enterprise. His pride in that service and his country never wavered. Memberships included the Veterans of the Vietnam War, Wilkes Barre, V.F.W. Post 586, York, and the American Legion Post 272, Linglestown, PA.

Per his wishes, there will be no funeral services at this time. Arrangements for his final journey are pending.

Our most heartfelt thanks to the dedicated friends, family members, neighbors and co-workers for being there in the past and continuing support to lend a hand and your prayers whenever needed. No names are necessary, as you know who you are!

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial in Charlie’s memory to Veterans of the Vietnam War, 760 Jumper Road, Wilkes Barre, PA 18702 (http://www.vvnw.org/home)

To my beautiful husband; at the time your heart stopped beating, mine broke in two. In life we loved each other with a passion never to be matched. I carry your love until we’re together again. My life, heart and love belong to you always. Sleep peacefully now!
