Charles Norman Best, 76, of Golden Living Center West Shore, Poplar Church Road died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Holy Spirit Hospital.
He was proud to have served for four years in the Marine Reserves. He was a retired steel worker from the former Harrisburg Steel which became Taylor Wharton. He also worked at the former Sanderson’s Wire Company in New Cumberland and Phoenix Iron and Steel in Harrisburg. He attended the former New Cumberland High School. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, New Cumberland and its Men’s Bible class. He was a former member of West Shore Sportsmen’s Assn. and enjoyed target shooting, taking 8mm home movies, and taking care of strays and unwanted animals. One of the highlights of his life was receiving a kiss from Sophia Loren at Boscov’s in Camp Hill.
He was born August 31, 1936 in Harrisburg to the late Arthur R. and Elva M. (Holcomb) Best, Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife Nancy L. Witherow Best whom he married November 6, 1976; a brother, Arthur (Art) R. Best, Jr. (Dot) of York Haven; mother-in-law, Dorothy L. (Myers) Witherow of Golden Living Center; niece, Cindy S. Cline of Goldsboro; six nephews, Dennis of Newberrytown, Randy of Texas, Alan and Mitchell of FL, and Terry of Delaware and Adrian of Maryland; six great nephews; ten great nieces; and five great-great nieces.
Visitation will be at 1:30pm followed by a celebration of his life at 2pm Wednesday, April 17th at Golden Living Center, West Shore, 770 Poplar Church Rd., Camp Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to his church, 415 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070 or to Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area, 7790 Grayson Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
