Charles R. Ryder

March 17, 1923 — September 29, 2013

Charles R. Ryder, 90, of Warrington Twp., born March 17, 1923, in Harrisburg, the eldest son of the late Anthony M. and Elmira C. (Filson) Ryder of Camp Hill, died on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at home. He was long affiliated with the Ryder’s Dairy, Lemoyne, and retired from Stroehmann’s Bakery.

He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy where he received the highest honor for equestrian skills. He showed hunters and jumpers in local horse shows including the Pennsylvania National Horse Show. Upon graduation from Valley Forge, he attended Harrisburg Academy.

Charlie served during World War II at the 750th Army Air Force Base Unit in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Sergeant.
Mr. Ryder was a life member of the American Legion Post 791, Shiloh and the VFW Post 537, Etters and was Past Post Commander in 1996-1997.

Charlie was preceded in death by his sister Kathleen Ryder Tysinger and his two brothers, Anthony M. Ryder Jr., and Newell M. Ryder.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice (Langlotz) Ryder; a son, Greg Ryder of Lewisberry; a daughter, Charlene Shank (Bob) of Dover; another son, Gary K. Ryder and grandsons Steven and Michael Ryder of Bellevue, Washington.

Memorial services will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland, with the Rev. Richard Gordon officiating. Interment will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Twp. Visitation will be held 1 – 2 PM on Thursday in the Funeral Home.
