Clifford G. Pogue, 84, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017. He maintained a residence in New Cumberland but had been living at the Brookdale Retirement Community in Mechanicsburg for the last year.
Cliff retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years of service as a Supervisor at the downtown Harrisburg branch but had fond memories and stories to tell of his early employment as a “bicycle boy” for Western Union, a department manager for Nagle’s supermarket in Paxtonia, and a milkman for Harrisburg Dairies. He was born in Harrisburg to the late Earl and Laura (Roden) Pogue and was the widower of Ruth J. (Morton) Pogue. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Pogue, and a sister, Patty Enders.
Cliff bought and sold matchbox and hot wheel die cast cars, amassing a valuable collection of over 22,000 pieces by 2015 when he decided to sell them to fellow enthusiasts. He was an avid Penn State football fan and followed NASCAR racing for many years.
He is survived by his children, Clifford L. Pogue and wife Brenda, Debra L. DeFiore and Denise R. Scarborough; four grandchildren, Laura Yates, Kaitlyn Pogue, Justin Scarborough and Kyle Scarborough; two great grandsons, Kalen Yates and Ty Yates; and many nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are respectfully requested to the New Cumberland Fire Department, 319 4th Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070.
