David Eugene Gaffney, 73, of Etters, Pennsylvania passed away on August 31, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on February 21, 1951, in Pensacola, FL, to the late David and Inez Irene (Ard) Gaffney.
David was a proud US Army veteran who served his country during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970 in the 4th Infantry Division, 1st of the 10th Cavalry, B Troop (Buffalo Soldiers). He remained involved in the National 4th Infantry (IVY) Division, serving many years as the Services Officer helping many veterans receive their VA benefits. David was active in the Carolinas Chapter of the 4th Infantry Association, serving in multiple capacities including Vice President. He also served as Chapter President of the Florida Chapter 4th Infantry Association for a term. He was actively involved with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and served as the DAV Commander of Chapter 90, in Boone, NC. This chapter worked closely with the Daniel Boone Daughters of the American Revolution to celebrate and give credit to veterans of the Revolutionary War. He was a strong advocate and member of the Federal Employee Appropriated Fund Union. David had a long career working as a Master Electrician for the Department of the Navy, but his true passions lay in outdoor activities, which he enjoyed with zest—backpacking the Appalachian Trail, camping, fishing, tending to his beloved bonsai trees, and landscaping. His love for sports was evident as he played football in high school and in Japan for the Navy Greyhawks when he and his wife were stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. David was an avid football fan, especially cheering on the New Orleans Saints, and an enthusiastic NASCAR spectator, particularly rooting for Joey Lagano. When not outdoors or engrossed in sports, David enjoyed customizing Ford trucks and immersing himself in a good book.
He is survived by his loving wife, Katrina Gail (Roberson) Gaffney; three daughters, MaryAnn Marie Olewine (Robert Horwhat), Jessica Gaffney Haubrick (Andrew), and Ashley Gaffney Signorelli (Michael); six grandchildren, Nicholas Grey Jordan, Sebastian David Gaffney, Ryan Cale Jordan, Makayla Ann Signorelli, Brody Michael Signorelli, and Franklin Cole Haubrick; siblings, Brenda Hammac, Ann Gaffney, Ray Gaffney, and Wayne Gaffney; and a very special niece, Megan Belinda Brumit. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Rodney Ard and Daniel Gaffney.
Viewing will be held from 10am until funeral services begin at 11am on Tuesday, September 10th at Eberly’s Mill Church of God, 115 Creek Road, Camp Hill, PA. He will be laid to rest in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full military honors.
