David Wayne Lingenfelter, 80, of Etters, died Friday, December 20, 2024 at Capitol Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, Harrisburg.
A 1962 graduate of Central High School in Martinsburg, he received his bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and later did his graduate work at Shippensburg University. David began his teaching career at Shippensburg High School and later taught math at Allen Middle School in the West Shore School District until his retirement. He later enjoyed working in the Fishing and Fly shop at Bass Pro Shop in Harrisburg.
He was a lifetime member of Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church, Penn State Alumni Association, White Deer Rod and Gun Club, Northern York Fish and Game, Lowther Manor Lodge No. 781 F. & A.M., Scottish Rite, and Consistory.
David was involved with Boy Scouts Troop No. 59 for twenty-five years as a Camp Leader. He especially enjoyed the time with his family. His main hobbies were fishing, hunting, and gardening.
He was born March 16, 1944 in Roaring Spring (growing up in East Freedom, PA) to the late David Franklin and Mary Ellen (Smeltzer) Lingenfelter.
He is survived by his wife, Emily Lou (Bechtel) Lingenfelter; son, Mark Lingenfelter; daughter, Susan Ann Lingenfelter; and several cousins.
Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the church cemetery. A Celebration of David’s Life will be held at Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church, 402 Valley Rd., Etters, PA 17319 at 11am on Saturday, January 25, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church, or Camp Tuckahoe of the Boy Scouts of America, New Birth of Freedom Council, BSA, (1 Baden Powell Lane, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050-2344).
