It is with heavy hearts that we celebrate the life of David John Marusa, a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us peacefully on December 22, 2024 at the age of 46. Born on January 20, 1978, in Bridgeport, CT to Michael and Katherine (Salisbury) Marusa, Dave was known for his love of live music, endless generosity and knack for finding the perfect seats for every concert. A home speaker system enthusiast, Dave never failed to remind us that, “These go to eleven”.
Dave's spirit extended beyond music; he loved yard games, hitting the golf course, fishing, playing cribbage, and spending evenings outdoors listening to tunes and sharing stories with friends. Dave bounded into rooms, shared every detail of his latest passions and was always prepared with a bad joke. A proud fan of the New York Mets, Dave delighted in recounting tales of the 1986 season, including witnessing the clinching 7th game of the World Series at Shea Stadium.
Dave was a shoe dog, joining the industry in the mid 1990’s at The Athlete's Foot and finding his true home at Shoe Fly where he worked for over 13 years. He made every customer feel at ease and made every employee feel like a friend. He forged lifelong relationships and even found “the wife” there. Dave was passionate about employee development and loved to teach people how to “do what we do.” He always said, “I love my job.”
Dave is survived by his devoted wife, Kristen Gustafson of New Cumberland, PA; his loving mother, Katherine Marusa of State College, PA; his siblings, Laura (Marusa) Brennan and her husband Michael of Newtown, CT; Michael Marusa and his wife Chrissy of State College, PA; his adored nephews and niece Kevin, Kelsey & Justin Brennan and Ryan & Jack Marusa; and of course, “the kids”, Pigpen and Pearl, who brought him endless joy. He is preceded in death by his father, Michael Marusa.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 6 – 8 PM at Parthemore Funeral Home in New Cumberland, PA. A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 11 AM with an hour of visitation prior. Inurnment will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in New Cumberland, PA. Everyone who knew Dave is warmly invited to join for laughter, music, and memories of a man who loved life.
In honor of Dave’s memory, the family welcomes gifts of flowers. For those seeking other ways to remember, Dave was deeply inspired by the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research and would be humbled by a donation in his honor. Dave would also encourage everyone to find joy with their loved ones—perhaps on a golf course or at a concert and, in memory of Dave, take the plunge and get great seats!
