David R. McDonel, Sr., 77, of Mechanicsburg died Friday, January 29, 2021 at UPMC Pinnacle West Shore Hospital.
He served in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam war repairing helicopters at the former New Cumberland Army Depot. He was a retired truck driver from Schneider National Carrier. He was a graduate of Cedar Cliff High School. He previously served as a missionary to Scotland with Evangelical Baptist Mission. He attended Cedar Hill Baptist Church, Dillsburg. Most recently, David enjoyed assisting as a mentor for Pastor Damir Pintaric in Cakovec, Croatia.
He was born November 6, 1943 in Rome, NY to the late Russel Lewis and Kathalene Estelle (Sober) McDonel.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn E. (Hewitt) McDonel; son, David R., Jr. of Mechanicsburg; daughter, Janet K. McDonel of Mechanicsburg; sister, Barbara Klase of Lewisberry; and brothers, Michael McDonel of Camp Hill and James McDonel of Roanoke, VA.
Graveside services will be held at 2pm Friday at Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Fairview Twp.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send memorial contributions to Cedar Hill Baptist Church (Missions Account).
