Debra "Debbie" J. Aldridge of Etters, PA, born October 6, 1958, in Cumberland MD, died on August 4, 2024, at home after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She was the daughter of the late John F. Cross Sr. and June Cross (Evans). She was preceded in death by her brother, John F. Cross Jr. (1993), Brother-in-law Donald (Boo) Shaffer (2016), and Sister-in-law Patricia Cross (2016). She is survived by her husband John E. Aldridge. They were married for 45 years. Two daughters, Jennifer Heverling (Greg) and Diane Lutz (Mike) 3 grandchildren, Elijah, Owen, and Avery. One sister, Norma Shaffer, Hyndman, PA, and several nieces and nephews. Debbie was employed by the West Shore School District for 32 years. She started her career at Red Mill Elementary in 1991, followed by a year at the Administration Building. She then became the secretary to the Assistant Principal at Lemoyne Middle School. She moved to Washington Heights Elementary as the Principal's Secretary. Then transferred to Allen Middle School and back to Lemoyne Middle School where she remained until the school closed. She then moved to Hillside Elementary and Red Mill Elementary. A few months later she accepted a full-time position as Principal's Secretary at Red Mill and remained there until her retirement in 2023. Debbie enjoyed crocheting, reading, and traveling. She visited all 50 states, Europe, South America, and the Caribbean.
Her family was everything to her. She cherished the time spent together and was fiercely proud of John’s love and support, especially during her battle with cancer, and her two daughters. Debbie loved receiving the title of “Ammy” from her oldest grandchild and making memories with her grandchildren.
Debbie’s faith was unwavering and her concern for others was immense. No matter how much she was suffering, she was always worried about and cared for others. She spread her faith unabashedly and hopes others will do the same. Debbie’s deepest wish was to spread ovarian cancer awareness so that others will not have to suffer as she did. Please learn the symptoms and self-advocate!
