Dennis P. Frizzi Jr., 63, of New Cumberland, passed away on Independence Day, 2024, fitting him perfectly as a proud American and true patriot. He was the son of the late Brenda (Kohr) and Dennis P. Frizzi Sr., born on May 3, 1961, in Harrisburg.
Denny, or “Friz,” as everyone called him, was a 1979 graduate of Cedar Cliff High School, Camp Hill, and would go on to serve his country in the United States Navy. His service took him to San Diego, CA, and many ports around the world. He was a project manager with Pengate-Raymond Intralogistics Solutions, York, having just celebrated his 35th work anniversary. Friz was very dedicated and loved what he did, traveling across the east coast.
Stemming from his upbringing and service in the Navy, Friz loved his country. He was past Commander of American Legion Post 143, New Cumberland, as well as past Cumberland County Commander. His involvement with the American Legion led him to becoming Post 143’s head baseball coach for more than a decade. He valued each player he coached and allowed them to be their authentic selves. After a successful campaign as coach, he was proud to represent American Legion baseball as a National Committeeman.
He was a thoughtful father and loved being “dad,” taking his kids fishing and then beating them all in bowling. He also loved golfing with his family as they got older. He was looking forward to retirement in the coming year, with plans of moving to his wife’s home state of Indiana and learning to be a farmer.
Friz had a big heart, feeding off the love he would give and receive from those around him. He was a staple at any community event, at Memorial Field in New Cumberland, and of course, at the American Legion Post 143. He cared about everyone, and he made it a priority to be sure that folks were comfortable and having fun. The Susquehanna River was his favorite place to put the world on pause and enjoy nature. Family and friends were typically part of that equation, but his dogs, Mack and Major, always had a spot on the pontoon.
Friz was a lifelong Penn State fan and rooted for the San Diego Padres (thanks to his time in the Navy). He liked more NFL teams than he rooted against, but this suited his positive and “glass half full” personality. His true sports love was American Legion Baseball, where he leaves a mark on many that will not soon be forgotten.
Surviving Denny is his wife of 20+ years, Laurie (Underwood) Frizzi; his children, Kristin Alonso (Isidro) of California, Tyler Blessing (Heather) of Mechanicsburg, Jamie Frizzi of Brooklyn, NY, Carson Blessing of New Cumberland, and Jackson Frizzi of Mechanicsburg; four grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Shannon Jenkins and Carol Frizzi; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael D. Frizzi and Robert A. Frizzi.
A Celebration of Life will take place from 1-4PM on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the Lower Allen VFW Post 7530, 4545 Westport Dr., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
