Donald K. Hoffer

March 19, 1937 — March 17, 2015

Donald K. Hoffer, 77, of Lemoyne, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015 in his residence.
He was a retired supervisor for the PA Rural Electric Association, Harrisburg and spent years during the mid-seventies and early eighties as a field engineer and draftsman in Indonesia working with the Charles T. Main, Inc. company. Don was a U.S. Air Force veteran during the Korean War, a graduate of Camp Hill High School and attended Duke University where he played on the soccer team. He enjoyed hunting, Dixieland and Bluegrass music, working on his cars, wood carving, and maintaining his rental properties. Additionally, he was a lifetime member of the Mechanicsburg Gun Club and the Austin Healey Sports and Touring Club, Harrisburg Region for over thirty-five years where he served as Newsletter Scribe.
There are many more things Don has done in his lifetime as he had a desire for learning and found pleasure in understanding how things worked, given his detail oriented nature. Another passion included reading and military history; he was blessed with an uncanny recall and a perspective that was always engaging. He was always willing to serve his community and country. He served as a member of the West Shore Fire Police for seven years willing to assist at any time day and night. Don held highly the beliefs and values of being an American citizen and firmly believed that freedom came with a responsibility. If you knew Don you knew he was a collector of many things and never hesitated to expand on a point with a well told story.
Don was born in Philadelphia to the late Louis and Marian (Penkethman) Hoffer. As a result, he was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Bruce.
He is survived by his wife of more than fifty-five years Dorothy (Crockett) Hoffer; children, Kim Swartley and husband Eric of Harrisburg, Sherry Baumgartner and husband Bryan of Kresgeville and Glenn Hoffer and wife Debra of Alpharetta, GA; four grandchildren, Jessie Swartley, Bryan and Matthew Baumgartner and Erin Hoffer.
Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Monday, March 23, 2015 in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Viewing will be from 1 pm until time of service Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are respectfully requested to the American Heart Association, Capital Region Division 1019 Mumma Road, Wormleysburg, PA 17043.
