Donald M. Long

Donald M. Long, 82, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Etters, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at Messiah Village, Upper Allen Twp.

He was the husband of Esther L. (Kohler) Long of 51 years. Donald was born in Lebanon Co. on November 25, 1938, the son of the late Paul D. Sr. and Elizabeth C. (Shaffer) Long. He was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Betty Hayes, Annabell Wert, Geraldine Booth, Kenneth Long, Paul Long Jr. and Barbara Long.

Donald was a member of the 1956 graduating class of Palmyra High School. He went on to retire as a Gunnery Sergeant from the U.S. Marine Corps having served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He also retired as a Corrections Officer from the PA Dept. of Corrections, Camp Hill. Donald was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Etters. He enjoyed gardening, taking pride in a well-manicured lawn. Donald cared about the wellbeing of others having donated over 12 gallons of blood throughout his lifetime.

In addition to his wife, surviving are brothers and sisters, Stanley Long (Eleanor) of Hershey, Gloria Wilson of Shreveport, LA, Thelma Farst of Lacey, WA, Barry Long (Kathleen) of Lebanon; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, December 11, 2020, at 2 PM at Paddletown Cemetery, Newberry Twp. Facial coverings and social distancing will be required.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Zion Lutheran Church, 470 Yocumtown Road, Etters, PA 17319.
