Doris A. Mowrey

Doris A. Mowrey, 98, formerly of New Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 23, 2019 in Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg, PA.

Doris was the Secretary to the President of Ginny Mae, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Washington, D.C., a WWII Marine Corps veteran, and a graduate of New Cumberland High School Class of 1938. She was a member of Community United Methodist Church, New Cumberland; the New Cumberland Woman’s Club; the Garden Club of Harrisburg; the Harrisburg Civic Garden Center, Inc.; and Friends of the New Cumberland Library.

Doris was born in New Cumberland, the daughter of the late B. Paul and Blanche C. (Sipe) Mowrey, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Benjamin P. Mowrey, Jr. and her sister Jeanne E. Hart.

She is survived by a niece Barbara J. Dunkle of Port Charlotte, FL; two grand nieces, Jennifer C. Clark and Deborah J. Juriga; two great grandnieces and two great grandnephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 1, 2019 in Community United Methodist Church, 16th & Bridge St. New Cumberland, PA 17070 with the Rev. Manuel Valentin, her Pastor officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services in the church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Fairview Twp., New Cumberland.
