Doris L. (Seiler) Bowen

March 7, 1935 — April 9, 2021

Doris L. (Seiler) Bowen, 86, of New Cumberland, passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center, Camp Hill. Born on March 7, 1935 in Millerstown, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Zelda (Longacre) Seiler.

Doris grew up in Northern Perry County, meeting her sweetheart and eventual husband, Paul, at a carnival in Thompsontown. The two were married on June 11, 1952. His work took them to the West Shore, eventually landing in New Cumberland, where the couple lived for almost 60 years. Upon moving to the area, she worked as a manager at White Shield Pharmacy, Lemoyne, and went on to work at Dauphin Deposit Bank. Starting in Summerdale, Doris would transition to the Harrisburg office where she would end up retiring as a loan processer. Her true talents were found in the kitchen, where her baking skills earned her top honors with friends and family. Her lemon meringue pie, sugar cookies and peanut butter eggs were a few of her specialties, and she loved nothing more than to spoil her family and guests. For almost sixty years, she and Paul would go camping; their adventures started in a pop-up camper, but they finally settled on a cabin in Loysville. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, New Cumberland, and enjoyed volunteering at Downtown Daily Bread, Harrisburg. She supported her family, and especially her husband, in all they did. Being a grandmother came naturally for Doris, and she loved every second with her grandkids (and generations beyond).

Surviving Doris is her husband of 69 years, Paul S. Bowen; her children, Glenda Houser of New Cumberland and David P. Bowen (Joann) of Etters; grandchildren, Shanna Houser of New Cumberland, Meghan Sheraw (Matthew) of Camp Hill, and Christopher Bowen of State College; great-grandchildren, Sarah Junkins (Corey), Madison Lolo (Roudly), Hannah Keefer and Claire Sheraw; great great-grandchildren, Oakley Myers and Carter Junkins; brothers, Glenn Seiler of FL and Paul Seiler of Millerstown; sisters, Marion Zeiders of McAlisterville and Kay Sheaffer of Selinsgrove; sister-in-law, Treva Seiler; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kim Houser-Keefer; great-grandson, Zachary Myers; son-in-law, Harry Houser Jr; and two brothers, Bill Seiler and Larry Seiler.

A public funeral service will be held at 3PM on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation services, New Cumberland. A visitation will take place the hour prior to services at the funeral home. A private graveside service will take place in Tri-County Memorial Gardens, Lewisberry.
