Doris Lutz Boswell

Doris L. Boswell, 95, of Camp Hill, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016.

Doris was born in Harrisburg to the late Frederick and Ella Lutz. In May, 1936, Doris received the Golden Eaglet, the highest Girl Scout award. She graduated from John Harris High School in 1936 and from Bucknell University in 1942 with majors in psychology and sociology. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta. During World War II, she was a caseworker for the American Red Cross.

Doris was an avid volunteer her entire life, from the days during high school when she played the piano at the county home until her 90’s when she served as program chair of the Camp Hill Women’s Club. Always participating in her children’s lives, she was a Cub Scout den mother and a Girl Scout leader, later serving on the Council’s Board of Directors. She grew up in Zion Lutheran Church, and then was an active member of Stevens Memorial United Methodist Church in Harrisburg, and later, Camp Hill Presbyterian Church. Her activities also included the Harrisburg Civic Club; the American Association of University Women, Bucknell Alumni Association, College Club, the Harrisburg Hospital Auxillary, and Homeland Center as a volunteer and from 1977 as a member of its Board of Managers. From 1979, she served seven Pennsylvania Governors as a Docent at the Governor’s Residence. In 2012, Doris was honored as the oldest living Golden Eaglet by the Girls Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania. She loved her friends, golf, travel, knitting, and bridge.

She was the widow of William D. Boswell and is survived by four children, William D. Boswell, Jr., and wife Rochelle of Los Angeles, CA, Jeffrey R. Boswell and wife Sandy of Camp Hill, Nancy B. Harmon and husband Walter of Peachtree City, GA and Joanne B. Ruhl and husband Charles of Camp Hill; a daughter–in-law Joan Feltman Schwartz of Los Angeles, CA; twelve grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 27, 2016, in Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, 101 N. 23rd Street Camp Hill, PA 17011. Visitation with the family will be held at 10:00 AM, as well as after the service. Private committal service and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
