Dorothea E. Kennedy

Dorothea E. Kennedy, age 103, of Messiah Lifeways, Mechanicsburg, PA, formerly of New Cumberland, PA, passed away and went Home to her Lord on Wednesday, June 21st at Messiah Lifeways.

Born in Ashley, PA on February 27,1920, she was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School, Kingston, PA, and later became Executive Secretary at the California Test Bureau in New Cumberland for many years.  Dottie, and her late husband Don, were very active members of Baughman United Methodist Church in New Cumberland, with Dottie being   instrumental in starting the pre-kindergarten program at the church.  In her later years, she enjoyed being a homemaker as well as tending to her family and friends.  Mom-mom, as she was referred to by her grandkids, and all their friends, loved visiting and cherished spending time with family.  Friends and neighbors always knew she was available and ready to go out for a cup of coffee, ice cream, or simply just to sit around the table to chat.  Dottie was very dedicated to her religious faith and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Marjorie (Jones) O’Connell, her husband Donald V. Kennedy, and daughter Donna E. Carney.

She is survived by her son, Robert D. Kennedy (Judith) of Newark, DE; grandchildren, Beth Arigo (Andrew) of Sanford, FL, Stacey Carney of Wilmington, DE, Kim Gillis (Brad) of Salisbury, MD, and Brad Kennedy (Sarah) of Claymont, DE; great-grandchildren, Emma Arigo, Lauren Arigo, Audrey Arigo, Jackson Gillis, Beau Gillis, and Zoe Kennedy.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM with memorial services at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 29^th at Baughman United Methodist Church, 228 Bridge St., New Cumberland, PA 17070. 

Private interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
