Dorothy J. (Poehlman) Galloway

July 30, 1930 — February 12, 2021

Dorothy J. (Poehlman) Galloway, 90, of Lewisberry, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, February 12, 2021, due to complications surrounding her fight with COVID-19. Born on July 30, 1930 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Elmer G. and Elsie (Andres) Poehlman.

Growing up in Scranton, she developed a great voice and was a talented pianist. She often sang for fun throughout the years, but as a young lady, she was frequently hired to sing and perform at various events, including weddings. Dorothy and her late husband, James, would start their family in Central PA; she worked as a service representative for the former PA Blue Shield, Camp Hill. In addition to her love for music, she had a passion for baking, reading, knitting and tending to the flowers in her garden. Dorothy was a founding member of the Camp Hill Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. For over 50 years she was quite active in her church, teaching, singing, serving in children’s ministries and participating in the Ladies’ Bible Study. In her later years, she fully embraced the role of being a grandmother, and she would do anything for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, or “my babies,” as she called them.

Surviving Dorothy are her son, James W. Galloway III (Robyn) of Harrisburg; daughters, Sharon Galloway Altland (P. Daniel) of Lewisberry; and Barbara Galloway Watts (James E.) of Etters; grandchildren, Brett D. Altland (Lindsey), Lauren Weber (Brett), Allison Golden (Damien), James Watts (Megghan), Samuel Watts (Kirsten), Hunter Galloway, and Logan Galloway; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Galloway Jr; and two brothers, E.G. Poehlman, and Norman D. Poehlman.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Dorothy’s final resting place will be in Tri-County Memorial Gardens, Newberry Township.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Dorothy’s name to her church: Wyndamere Heights Evangelical Congregational Church, 736 Wyndamere Road, Lewisberry, PA 17339, or a charity of your choice.
