Edna M. Keister, 67, of Fairview Twp., New Cumberland, died Friday, August 2, 2013, in her residence with her family at her side.
She finished her nursing career as a Registered Nurse at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown; a Captain in the U.S. Army Nurses Corps and served ten years in the U.S. Army Reserve; a Senior Tax Preparer for H&R Block; a graduate of Penn State University and was listed in the Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities; the president of the Regional Enterostomal Therapy Nurses of the PA, NY and NJ regions; the founding mother and past president and of the Oncology Nurses Society, Lehigh Valley Chapter and the Enterostomal Therapy Nurses, Lehigh Chapter and was Board Certified in both the Enterostomal and Oncology specialties. In 1999 Edna was awarded the Helen Dady Sipes Nursing Excellence Award.
She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland and the vice-president of its Little Flower Club; the president of the Senior Adult Ministry of the Diocese of Harrisburg; and was the Queen of the Red Hot Swans. Born in Mechanicsburg on July 10, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Edward Sr. and Mary B. (Nulty) Keister.
Surviving are two brothers, Edward "Chip" Keister Jr. of Enola and Michael Keister Sr. of Lemoyne; two sisters, Linda J. Bentz of Harrisburg and Barbara Woodruff of Lewisberry; a niece and five nephews; eleven grand nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 in her church. Private burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Hanover Twp. There will be no viewing or visitation.
