Edward L. Crumlich

May 2, 1927 — August 13, 2017

“I love you and I had a good life” are the words my father spoke to me after he was diagnosed with cancer. “I lived to be ninety years old with very little problems, how many people can say that?” Still in my eyes, the eyes of his daughter, that time was still not long enough.

Edward Crumlich passed away unexpectedly in the morning hours of Sunday, August 13th, 2017. If you ask anyone Edward lived his entire life on his own terms and was a consummate story teller. Ed was proud to say he grew up on the West Side of Steelton, which was a short walk to the banks of the Susquehanna River.

For over 85 years his shadow touched its shoreline virtually every day on foot, polling his boat, or of late daily trips by car. Many people believed that Ed was part fish that’s why nicknames like Mr. Musky, Catfish Eddy or Legend of the Susquehanna were so befitting. He knew every inch of the river and he loved it out there. So don’t be surprised if you catch a glimpse of him when the fishing is good. Some of the hundreds of fishing articles written about him over the years can still be found online and pictures of him hang out at Bass Pro.

Ed was a barber for 59 ½ years and he was also a very talented artist. He picked up a brush at the age of 50 and painted for 40 years. He built his own boats, did his own taxidermy and built his own furniture along with so many other things. His talent had no bounds.

Edward served in the Navy in World War II and the Korean War.

He is survived by his daughter, Shelby Crumlich, and his three sisters Laura Armstrong, Alice Maurer and Sandy Myers and brother Quentin Crumlich. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, wife Frances Crumlich; daughter Kelly Crumlich and Grandchild Shawnee Crumlich.
