Edward R. Kelly

December 16, 1932 — March 6, 2018

Edward R. Kelly, 85, of Allendale, Camp Hill, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 in his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Ed was born in Garfield, NJ to the late Charles and Kathleen (Brady) Kelly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles T. and Richard R. Kelly.

He is survived by his wife of more than 63 years Lorraine J. (Scieska) Kelly; two sons, Scott Andrew Kelly (Sharon) of Pittstown, NJ and Drew Edward Kelly (Norma) of Ormond Beach, FL; and 4 grandchildren: Shawna Mehall (John), Briana Thatcher (Lance), Thomas Kelly and Max Kelly.

He was a retired Electrical Engineer and Global International Standards Director with AMP, Inc.; an Air Force veteran of the Korean War; a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, NJ where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

A few highlights of Edward’s distinguished career included being selected an original navigator and bombardier on the Strategic Air Command B-47 Stratojet during the Cold War. The B-47’s primary mission was as a nuclear bomber capable of mass retaliation to the Soviet Union, if deemed appropriate. Immediately after the Air Force Edward worked alongside Werner Von Braun (known as the father of rocket technology) and the Original 7 astronauts of the Mercury Space Program. As a child, Ed’s dream was to see the world and he fulfilled that goal by visiting more than 100 countries as a Principal Engineer with AMP (Aircraft Marine Products) Incorporated. Upon the conclusion of his career, he was the first American to be granted the Lord Kelvin Award by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commision), the highest tribute for exceptional long-term achievements.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, March 12, 2018 in St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1300 Bridge St. New Cumberland, PA.
