Emmanuel Matthew Paul, 57, of New Cumberland, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in Lucerne, Switzerland while traveling on business.
Emmanuel lived in South Harrisburg for much of his boyhood. He enjoyed being a patrol boy at Sacred Heart of Jesus School, where he helped students cross the intersection of Cameron and Paxton Streets. He then attended St. Theresa School, was a graduate of Trinity High School, Shiremanstown, PA and received a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Scranton, Scranton, PA. He completed a variety of graduate level studies at the Pennsylvania State University, Hershey, PA.
For more than 35 years Emmanuel was employed in a variety of orthopaedic research positions by the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine at the Hershey Medical Center. He was fortunate to enjoy his work and his colleagues a great deal.
Emmanuel loved to plan events and projects with his close knit group of family and friends. A life-long fisherman, outdoor enthusiast, and Eagle Scout, he enjoyed cooking and travel, and was a celebrated student, collector, and aficionado of various artisanal foods and spirits. Emmanuel was very happy to have a close connection with his goddaughter, Chelsea Robinson, and with her parents, all of New Cumberland, PA, and to be affectionately known as “Uncle Manny” by countless others.
Emmanuel was born in Harrisburg to the late Paul Emmanuel and Clara Jean (Dubrawka) Paul.
He is survived by his sister Bernadette Paul and her husband Dale Kitner of New Cumberland, and his brother Gregory Paul and his wife Natalie of Wind Gap, PA, as well as by a maternal aunt, Helen F. Coffman, of Pittsburgh, PA and maternal cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3pm on Monday, November 11, 2013 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in New Cumberland where Emmanuel was a member. Visitation will be from 1:30pm to 2:30pm on Monday the 11th, in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. The family will be hosting a gathering for family, friends and coworkers after the Mass at Fairview Fire Station No. 1, 340 Lewisberry Road, New Cumberland at 4:30 pm. All who wish to attend that gathering are welcome, even if unable to participate earlier.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged in Emmanuel’s name to St. Theresa’s Boy Scout Troop 192.
