Ernst “Ernie” August Reimer, 83, of Mechanicsburg, died on May 9, 2019 at his residence. Son of the late Henry P. and Elsie (Von Ronn) Reimer, he was born in Queens, NY, on January 16, 1936.
Ernie was born and raised in New York City; he moved to rural Bangor, PA when he was 13. Not exactly set on farming as a career, he decided to join the United States Marines. After his time in the service, he went to work for Freysinger Pontiac, New Cumberland, as a car salesman. He enjoyed hunting and trout and salmon fishing throughout his life, and cherished the time he was able to spend with his family (especially on the family farm in Bangor). He was a 50-year member of Tall Cedars, Lowther Manor Lodge No. 781 F. & A.M., and Zembo Shrine. He rescued many dogs throughout his lifetime, but his favorite dog was Buddy, his bichon/poodle mix, who often sat on his lap and enjoyed the ride.
Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Kate Reimer; his children, Kurt A. Reimer and wife, Dee, of New Cumberland, and Laura Morris and husband, Larry, of Mechanicsburg; his grandsons, Kris Nazay, of Goldsboro, and Travis Reimer, of Bangor; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, May 15th, at Community United Methodist Church, New Cumberland. A visitation will take place one hour prior in the church. A committal service will take place in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 11:30AM on Thursday, May 16th.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a making contribution in Ernie’s name to his church: Community United Methodist Church, 16th & Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070.
