Eugene A. Bowser, Jr., 89, of Camp Hill and formerly of New Cumberland, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017 in Pennacle West Shore Hospital, Hampden Twp. with his family at his side.
Gene was born in Harrisburg to the late Eugene A. and Villa (Zerbe) Bowser, Sr.
He was a 1945 graduate of Lemoyne High School; the Manager of Bowser’s Gulf Station, New Cumberland; retired from Modjeski and Masters Consulting Engineers, Camp Hill as a Civil Engineer; and upon retirement, worked for many years with Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Gene was a U.S. Merchant Marine veteran during WWII and a Navy veteran serving in the Korean War.
He was an active member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Cumberland where he served on Church Council, as a Luther League advisor, held several positions in Boy Scout Troop 82, and sang in the choir. Gene was a life member of the New Cumberland Fire Department and was a member of Lowther Manor Lodge 781, F&AM, Marysville; Harrisburg Consistory, AASR; Zembo Shrine where he was Ambassador to the Potentate, Aide Emeritus and a member of the Legion of Honor; Emeritus Member of International Legion of Honor; Cumberland County, Elizabethtown-Masonic Village, Lebanon and Hershey Shrine Clubs; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg Forest 43; and VFW Post 7415 and American Legion Post 143, both of New Cumberland.
Gene enjoyed his time in Mt. Gretna, boating and sailing. But his greatest love in life was his family.
He is survived by his wife of more than 68 years, Doris L. (Campbell) Bowser; children, Eugene A. Bowser, III of Pittsgrove, NJ, Michael L. Bowser and wife Carol of Mechanicsburg and Danette A. Sral and husband Michael of Bolivia, NC; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in his church, 530 Bridge St. New Cumberland with the Rev. Elaine M. Dent, his pastor officiating. Viewing will be from 6-8 pm Tuesday in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland with a Masonic service beginning at 6 pm. Burial with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions in Gene’s memory to either Shriners Hospital for Children or Zembo Shrine Children’s Transportation Fund. Both charity’s addresses would be 2801 N. Third Street Harrisburg, PA 17110.
