Frank J. Kempf, 87, formerly of New Cumberland, died Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at Bethany Village, Lower Allen Twp. Born on March 29th, 1926 in Enhaut, he was the son of the late Frank L. and Anna (Schaffhauser) Kempf. He was the widower of Patricia J. (Sullivan) Kempf and was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret A. Lyng, a grandson, Francis J. Sheibley and a brother, Peter J. Kempf.
He served in combat in the Pacific Theater during World War II where he attained the rank of Naval Officer.
He retired as a Professional Engineer with Baker Inc., a nationally recognized engineering firm, where he supervised the design of many prominent bridges including the New River Gorge Bridge in WV, the Yukon River Bridge in Alaska, and the Betsy Ross Bridge in Philadelphia.
He served as a Borough Councilman in New Cumberland for 16 years; was a member of the Cumberland County Planning Commission and the Harrisburg Diocesan Building Commission; served on the Sylvan Heights Board of Directors; was an active member of St. Theresa’s Parish for 66 years; a proud graduate of Villanova University.
Surviving are four sons, Frank J. Jr. (Sharon) of York, Thomas M. of Mechanicsburg, James P. (Judy) of Camp Hill, Michael E. (Suzanne) of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Patricia Kempf Sheibley of Camp Hill; two sisters, Anna Raudensky of Steelton and Caroline Fure of Oberlin; fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Theresa Catholic Church, on Friday at 11 AM with the Rev. Michael McFadden as celebrant. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Twp.
Visitation will be held 9:30 – 10:30 AM on Friday at Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland.
