Franklin T. Rudy, 86, of Etters, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center, Camp Hill. He was the son of the late Stewart N. and Gertrude V. (Zimmerman) Rudy, born on October 7, 1936 in Fairview Township.
Frank was a graduate of New Cumberland High School, going on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy from 1953-56, where he was a Gunner’s Mate on the U.S. Pawcatuck (AO-108). He would then enlist in the Army National Guard, continuing his service for many years. A truck driver by profession, he would work for Hall’s Motor Transit, Harrisburg, before retiring with the former Roadway Package Services, Lewisberry. In retirement, he would continue driving on a contract-basis with several local companies; he was also an armed guard for the Social Security and I.R.S. offices in York.
In May of 1958, Frank would meet his soon-to-be wife, Joan. The pair would date throughout the summer before tying the knot in October of that year. In addition to raising a family of their own, the couple selflessly cared for and fostered 32 children throughout the years, positively impacting many young lives. A man of faith, Frank (and family) would become longtime members of Moore’s Mountain Church, Mechanicsburg. In 1966, Frank began a long tenure as a Deputy Game Warden with the PA Game Commission, primarily focused on serving York County. He enjoyed woodworking as a young man, and hunting and fishing were always good ways to clear his mind. He took pride in his family, enjoying all the time he could get with the younger generations, and relishing his role as “grandpa.” He wasn’t afraid to express his feelings; holding hands with his wife, or spontaneously yelling “I love you!” from another room were just two ways in which he would show his love. His family will miss his presence, but they will forever cherish the impact he had on each of their lives.
Surviving Frank is his wife and best friend of 64 years, Joan L. (Whitebread) Rudy; a son, Jeffrey L. Rudy (wife, Kim) of Etters; grandchildren, Kirstin Stonfer (husband, David), Trey Rudy and Spencer Rudy; a great-grandson, Michael; and a brother, Stewart E. Rudy.
A memorial service will be held at 1PM on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Moore’s Mountain Church, 1062 Siddonsburg Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
