Gary L. Rothrock

November 18, 1955 — December 28, 2024

New Cumberland, PA

Gary L. Rothrock, 69, of New Cumberland, passed away in the early hours of Saturday, December 28, 2024, at UPMC West Shore Hospital, Mechanicsburg. He was the son of Jacqueline D. (Harder) Rothrock and the late Robert C. Rothrock, Sr.

Growing up in Central PA, Gary relocated to New Jersey as a young man and began working as a boilermaker. He would work for Union County as an assistant engineer in their boiler plant which serviced the county prison and courthouse. After 25 years, he retired and then found his way back to New Cumberland where he could be closer to his family.

Gary was a member of the West Shore Elks in Camp Hill and VFW Post 7530, Mechanicsburg. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he was an avid golfer. He golfed whenever possible in Myrtle Beach, and any time spent with his cousins and friends on the golf course were memories he cherished. He was a character—whether it was picking people up when they were down or telling "tall tales" to his family for his own amusement, he always managed to get a smile out of those around him.

Surviving Gary is his mother, Jacqueline D. (Harder) Rothrock of New Cumberland; brothers, Robert C. Rothrock, Jr. (Marie) of Elizabethtown, Michael L. Rothrock of Mechanicsburg, and Keith C. Rothrock of Carlisle; a sister, Kim E. Hocker (Mark) of Camp Hill; an aunt, Carol Bird (Charles) of Harrisburg; two uncles, James Rothrock and Charles Ray Harder (Nanette), both of Harrisburg; nephews and a niece, Jeremy, Jennifer, Chad, Christopher, Justin, Daniel, and Alan; several great-nieces and nephews; many cousins; and extended family through the Jurinas and Kleins. In addition to his father, Robert C. Rothrock, Sr., he was preceded in death by an uncle, William Rothrock III; an aunt, Arlene Rothrock; and sister-in-law, Dawn Rothrock.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Gary's name to VFW Post 7530, 4545 Westport Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
