Geneva L. Deremer, 96, formerly of Enola, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024 while living at the Middletown Home, Dauphin County. She was the daughter of the late Denzil and Ethel (Hott) Oates, born on December 7, 1927 in Cumberland, MD.
Born and raised in Allegany County, MD, she would work on the family farm in her youth while playing softball for fun. Walter Deremer, a railroader, wound up working in Maryland and took an interest in Geneva, becoming a regular fan at her softball games. One day he asked her out, and as they say… the rest is history.
The two would move to Pennsylvania, settling in Enola in 1965. She spent many years babysitting, and she and Walter were foster parents to 18 kids throughout their marriage. A woman of strong faith, she taught Sunday School for years. Geneva became a member of Christian Life Assembly, Camp Hill, in 1984, taking on monthly missionary sponsorships and sending over 200 Christmas cards to missionaries all over the world. Her passion for softball came full-circle when she got to root on all three of her boys when they played for CLA in the Twin Shores softball league. She was tough, yet tender, beating cancer twice without batting an eye while always making sure that her sons and extended family had enough to eat at each holiday meal she hosted. Her three boys, as well as so many who knew her, will miss her big smile and genuine love for all.
Surviving are her sons, David Deremer (Linda) of Camp Hill, Gary Deremer (Deb) of Enola, and Ray Deremer (Susan) of Mechanicsburg; grandchildren, Jason (Tonja), Jonathan (Cecilia), Jordan (Sarah), Michael (Cindy), Chase, Cody, and Caley; six great-grandchildren; and a foster son who remained a part of the family, Ricky. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, Walter C. Deremer (decd. 1989); three brothers and three sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30PM on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland, with Pastor Paul Wislocky officiating. A public viewing will take place from 1:30PM until services begin in the funeral home. Graveside services will immediately follow in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Geneva’s name to her church, Christian Life Assembly (www.clacamphill.com/give).
