George E. Knovich

George E. Knovich, 87, of Newberry Township, died on August 4, 2018, at home. Son of the late John and Josephine (Sedlock) Knovich, he was born on September 30, 1930, in Shamokin.

George graduated from Penn State School of Architecture, and spent his entire career as an architect, eventually working independently in his later years. His local projects included the New Cumberland Fire Hall, Susquehanna Center for Nursing and Rehab, and Red Land HS Natatorium, to name a few. He also served in the U.S. Navy, then later as a Reservist. George was extremely active in his church, serving as a special minister, taking communion to the sick, and volunteering at Bingo night, among other roles. He was a member of the Astronomical Society of Harrisburg. George found relaxation in the garden; and more recently, he enjoyed birdwatching.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (White) Knovich; his children, Mary Ann Knovich, M.D. (John Andrysick), of Charlotte, NC, Joan Knovich, of York Haven, James Knovich (Hollie), of Etters, and Susan Knovich, of Mechanicsburg; and seven grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Eleanor Snyder, Thomas Knovich and John Knovich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at 11AM. Prior to mass, a visitation will be held at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services (located directly across the street from the church) from 9:30-10:30AM. Immediately following mass, a graveside service and burial will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
