George William “Bill” Zimmerman, 77, of Shiremanstown, loving husband, father and friend, passed from this side of heaven to be with our Lord on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016.
Born August 5, 1938 to the late Murray Bricker and Anna Mae (Beatie) Zimmerman, he leaves to celebrate his life until the broken chain links once more are his beloved wife, Barbara, “Barbie” two treasured sons in whom he was well pleased, Todd William(Teri) and Chris Michael (Courtney), 5 grandchildren, a brother, Ronald and his wife, Jean, and a niece and nephew, his Trinity church family and dear and cherished friends and neighbors.
“Bill” graduated from New Cumberland High School and Penn State University and was a life-long member of Trinity E.U.B./ United Methodist Church.
An accomplished musician, he played trumpet throughout high school and with the Penn State Blues Band, Trinity orchestra and the Pennsylvania Air Force National Guard Band.
He served as an Army medic and retired from the Pennsylvania Air Force National Guard.
Bill’s business career included: Dauphin Deposit Auto Bank manager, Production Control manager at A.M.P., Inc., Capital Area Intermediate Unit, where he served as comptroller and chief financial officer until his retirement. Bill was a P.I.A.A. Baseball League umpire and inspired good sportsmanship along with love of the game.
Each year, for many years, he assisted individuals and businesses in New Cumberland, Shiremanstown and the Harrisburg area with consultation and preparation of income tax forms and he served Trinity church as administrator during Pastor Carl Ford Peterson’s appointment.
A 32nd degree full mason, Bill was a faithful member in good standing of Eureka Lodge No. 302, F & AM. Bill enjoyed nature’s beauty and the miracle of spring, working tirelessly in his lovely yard and gardens. He looked forward to daily five mile neighborhood walks, hiking and travel with family and dear friend, John and yearly visits to Hilton Head, Williamsburg and Ocean City, Maryland.
His greatest joy remained serving Our Lord each day and “his boys”, their families and careers.
A Celebration of Life Service will be celebrated at 11am Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 415 Bridge Street, New Cumberland with Pastor Carl Ford Peterson and Pastor Arun Andrews officiating.
A reception with family will be from 10am until services at the church. Interment will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bill’s church.
