Gordon E. “Skip” Bowen, 88, of New Cumberland, Fairview Township, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023 in his residence.
He was a retired Maintenance General Supervisor with the Quaker Oats Company, Shiremanstown. Skip attended Christian Life Assembly, Camp Hill and was a member of Eureka-West Shore Lodge 302 F&AM, Mechanicsburg. He loved to travel with his wife, and together they visited 49 of the 50 United States. They also enjoyed cruising to destinations such as Alaska, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, and South America. He found great joy hunting in Potter County, camping and gardening. But more than anything, Skip’s world revolved around his family. Skip was a masterful mason, woodworker and all-around craftsman who displayed this craftsmanship in the two houses he built for himself, his wife, and their family.
Skip was born in Fairview Twp., York County, the son of the late Goldie (Snyder) Harbold. Skip was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Genevieve Mae (McCauslin) Bowen, and two sisters, Loyal Fish and Patricia Negley.
He is survived by his children, Gordon “Skip” Bowen, Jr. and wife Wanda of York Haven, Doreen Klingler and husband John of Mechanicsburg, Darlis Mateer and husband George of New Cumberland, Dennis Bowen and wife Marie of New Cumberland and Diane Reitz and husband Tim of Camp Hill; siblings, Mervin Harbold, Robert Harbold, Fonda Taggart, Lynn Harbold and Lloyd Harbold, Jr.; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be from 5-7 pm Monday, July 31, 2023 in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp.
