Grace Margaret Swift passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, at the remarkable age of 100. Born on October 25, 1924, in Woodbury, Connecticut, Grace lived her life unapologetically, with a sharp wit and steadfast determination. Known for her fierce independence, she spoke her mind freely and stood firm in her beliefs.
Grace found peace in life’s simpler pleasures—gardening, flowers, music, and the beauty of the countryside. She took pride in her role as the wife of an Army officer, Harry Robert Swift, and found her greatest purpose in raising her six sons who all survive her: Ron (Carol), Michael (Brenda Coble), Terry (Sue), David (Andrea), Scott (Paula), and Rob (Patti). She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; her parents, Thomas and Margaret (Sellar) Nemence; her six brothers and two sisters.
Per her wishes, a private family service will be held at Rolling Green. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions to AMVETS, 3309-11 Hubbard Road, Hyattsville, MD 20785, in honor of Grace’s independent and resilient spirit.
