Harold R. Buchter, 84, of New Cumberland, died November 18, 2019, at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital.
Harold was the Proprietor and President of the former Colonial Beverage Distributors, Inc., Harrisburg for 23 years. He was subsequently employed by the Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg in procurement where he retired at age 59. Mr. Buchter was an Army veteran; attended Bucknell University, Lewisburg; attended St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland; was a former member of N.A.R.F.E., US Amateur Ballroom Association, Harrisburg Ballroom Dance Club, Syncopation Dance Club, West Shore Elks Lodge 2257, B.P.O.E., Camp Hill for 11 years; and Gold’s Gym.
Harold’s recreational activities consisted of ballroom dancing, cruising/traveling, reading, walking, golf and exercising at the gym. Harold was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan, loved spending time with family and going to his grandchildren’s diving competitions. He was a kind and loving father and a devoted husband of 58 years.
Born in Harrisburg on June 9, 1935, he was the son of the late Harold S. and Sarah R. (Readinger) Buchter. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Barry Buchter and a sister, Nancy Grim.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara A. (Obudzinski) Buchter; a daughter and her husband, Donna L. and George Lenhart of Enola; a son and his wife, Bradley S. and Shelly Buchter Sr. of Hickory, NC; two grandchildren, Ashley A. Buchter, and Bradley S. Buchter Jr.; many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, November 30 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, with the Rev. Kyle Sahd as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Church Cemetery, Reading at the convenience of the family.
Visitation with the family will be held 9:30 – 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 30 at Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland.
